The Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust is seeking a highly motivated, talented, inspirational Assistant Head to lead on Inclusion and SEND, to join our dedicated team at The Westwood Academy.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a strong practitioner, with experience of leading SEND provision the successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to lead, motivate, inspire and support colleagues and who is passionate about Inclusion and life chances for all children. The suitable candidate will have the National SENDCo Award or be on this programme. As a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team the successful candidate will work closely with Teachers and manage TAs support and interventions. This role will build upon our inclusive school culture and develop existing systems of tracking and reviewing provision.

 

The Assistant Headteacher, under the direction of the headteacher, will:

  • Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEND) policy and provision in the school
  • Leading and monitoring EHCP application process
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEND or a disability
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
  • The Assistant Headteacher will be expected to fulfil the responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the STPCD

While the Assistant Headteacher will have responsibility for the oversight of provision for students with SEND or a disability, class teachers will hold responsibility for the day-to-day education and support of students within their classroom.

 

 

Requirements:

  • A degree or a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, three years of which should be middle leadership.
  • Passion for education and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 teaching would be an advantage.
  • Experience of successful middle or senior curriculum leadership with proven impact.
  • An awareness of the link between behaviour and SEND and be committed to raising staff awareness of recognising individual need and promoting staff awareness of how best to meet needs in lessons.

 

The Headteacher may change the area of responsibility in order to enable professional growth.

 

The role will involve working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year and teachers within the school and across the trust, allowing them to fulfil our aim to 'be the best you can be.'
