Shirley Whiting

Following three years studying accountancy at the beginning of the early 1980s, I joined a West End PR agency. I then moved to a Financial and Corporate PR agency on Fleet Street and was part of a team that moved on to form Citigate Communications based in the City of London, working with PLCs on their financial and corporate communications. At the beginning of the 1990s I moved to Yorkshire and with a colleague set up the Leeds office of Citigate offering corporate and financial PR to regionally based PLCs and professional organisations.

Following a move to Warwickshire at the beginning of the 2000s, I continued to work on an ad hoc basis offering marketing and communications advice to various organisations.

In 2012 I became a Governor and then Chair of Governors at Kenilworth School & Sixth Form - spearheading the plans to build a new expanded secondary school on a new site in the town. In 2019 Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust was formed and I became a Trustee, chairing the HR & Remuneration Committee. I became Chair of Trustees in 2022, stepping down in July 2024 following the delivery of the new £46m 2,200 pupil secondary school for the town which opened its doors to students in September 2023.

I am currently Chair of Trustees of a Southern African Charity.
