The Trust
Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust has a vacancy for a Teacher of Music on a part time basis, 0.6fte from September 2025.
Kenilworth School and Sixth Form’s latest Ofsted report of November 2023 rates the school as Outstanding in all five areas, maintaining our Outstanding status from the Ofsted inspection of 2013. This is an exciting time to join us as we have moved into a newly built, bespoke school on Glasshouse Lane, Kenilworth in September 2023.
The school is well resourced to support the delivery of the subject. The post holder will join a supportive team with opportunities for professional development.
Our educational ethos encourages our students to be responsive, resilient, to have reasoning, be reflective and resourceful in their learning.
The Role and Department
The Music department is busy and thriving with a total of three teachers. We are an Incorporated Society of Musicians Bronze Award department as well as a Music Mark department. We were nominated by the Warwickshire Music Hub to become a Music Mark department in recognition of the value and commitment the school has placed on music education. We have a close working relationship with the Warwickshire Music Hub who deliver our in school instrumental lessons. Kenilworth School and Sixth Form is the Central Area hub for rehearsals and performances for Warwickshire Music ensembles.
The subject is popular at GCSE and A Level, where we follow the Eduqas specification. In addition to GCSE, we also deliver the WJEC Vocational Qualification in Performing Arts (Music Technology pathway) at Key Stage 4. This has proved to be a popular option group, so an experience of teaching Music Technology would be advantageous but not essential.
Our flourishing extra-curricular programme includes The KPO (Orchestra), Brass Ensemble, The Jazz Messengers, Year 10 Male Voice Choir, Key Stage 3 Choir, Mix Masters (Music Technology session), Rock Up and Clariflotax Woodwind Ensemble. These ensembles all perform in our annual Winter and Spring concerts in addition to selected soloists.
The Music department works very closely with the Drama department to put on our annual whole school productions. Past productions include Legally Blonde, Our House, The Wizard of Oz and most recently Oh What a Lovely War! This academic year, we have already staged Matilda Jr with Key Stage 3 and 4 students, and we will be presenting Little Shop of Horrors in July with Key Stage 4 and 5 students. A continued commitment to support our extra-curricular programme will be required.
We regularly attend live music performances, and the department is a member of the Warwick Arts Centre education scheme. After a concert there in December, we met with piano soloist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason for a Q&A session with our students from Year 8-13. On top of this, we have also attended the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, local Jazz Jam sessions and we have ties with local recording studios.
Past students of Kenilworth School and Sixth Form have studied music at The Royal College of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Edinburgh University and Durham University to name a few.
The successful applicant should be aspirational, creative, dynamic, innovative and have a genuine engaging enthusiasm for the teaching and learning of music.
As a Teacher of Music, you should be able to teach music across all ability ranges from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. A competent pianist is highly desirable to complement the existing strengths of the department.
We can offer you:
- Excellent CPD opportunities
- A supportive team of colleagues within the Department and across the school
- A positive, community school environment with an innovative learning culture
- A dedicated and forward looking management team, with highly skilled staff upholding high expectations and aspirations for our students
